ABOUT SPOTTED LANTERNFLY APPLICATION
Spotted lanternflies feed on a wide range of fruit, ornamental and woody trees. The insect changes hosts as it goes through its developmental stages. Nymphs feed on a wide range of plant species, while adults prefer tree-of-heaven. Both nymphs and adults of spotted lanternfly cause damage when they feed, sucking sap from stems and branches. This can weaken the plant and eventually contribute to the plant’s death. As Spotted lanternfly feeds, the insect releases honeydew (a sweet-smelling substance) which can attract bees, wasps, and other insects. The honeydew also builds up and promotes the growth of sooty mold (fungi), which can cover the plant, understories, patio furniture, cars, and anything else found below Spotted lanternfly feeding areas.
