Aspenn Alerts: Tick Control in Ventnor City, NJ 08406
TICK CONTROL ALERT FOR VENTNOR CITY, NJ:
Located right on the Atlantic City sandbank, Ventnor City is a highly desirable location in Atlantic County. It’s home to just over 10,000 residents, and was named after the ocean-side town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, in England. It’s greatest landmark is the city’s famous double-leaf bascule drawbridge leading to the mainland highway.
Most people wouldn’t think of Ventnor City as a risk-area for ticks, but in fact the city has two red-flags that could cause potential problems for residents. Firstly, the displacement of wildlife has caused smaller mammals, such as mice, to become the primary vector for Lyme-infected ticks – and they can enter people’s gardens and yards with impunity.
Secondly, birds such as Canada Geese are frequent carriers of Lyme-infected ticks, and as they pass through Ventnor City will often pause on homeowner’s properties. During these lay-overs, ticks will sometimes drop off into people’s yards and gardens; and subsequently pose a risk to residents.
